Month 20

Dear Little Man,

You are now 20 months and a few days old. Boy, time is flying by so fast, it just seems like yesterday that we were bringing you home from the hospital. I sat in the backseat with you and tried to keep your little head from falling over and the sun out of your face. You didn't seem to mind because the whole way home you slept.

You are a bundle of energy most of the time, you like to have the freedom to move around. Unfortunately right now your Dad and I are in the middle of neverending remodeling and some areas of the house are not really great for a toddler to, well, toddle around in. Of course, you don't understand this and get angry with us when we move you along. You also love walking up stairs by yourself. If one of us is going upstairs, you like to tag along. Once again, you don't understand why we won't let you go by yourself and get angry when we pick you up and carry you away from the stairs. Lately, you like going over to them and looking back at me as you turn around and gently sit your little bum on the first stair. Then you let out this contented sigh as if that is all you really wanted to do.

The other night you were getting your good night hugs and kisses from your Daddy. He was making noises as he was kissing you and you were giggling and so amussed by it. I was sitting there waiting to take you upstairs to bed and thought to myself that I never want to forget the sound of the love you two have for each other. When you go to Gramma S's overnight, he misses you like crazy and has said to me more than once that it is really quiet in the house without his little buddy there all day. I am so glad that you guys get to spend so much time together.

You are still kind of shy about talking. Right now, you say Mum, Dada, git(as in "get kitty"), brumbrum whenever you play cars or hear one, juis(juice), more, tishy(kitty), no, and oh tay(ok), and map(thanks to Dora The Explorer) on a consistant basis. On the weekend, you went around the table at Gramma S's and said Mum, Dada and Gramum. It was close enough to Gramma that we were all pretty happy about it. You also picked up bread the other night as it has become your favorite food right now. I remember when it used to be carrots, don't you miss carrots son? You have other words that you say from time to time, but those are the ones that stand out. You have had the sign down for more for a long time now, and you use it and say mooorah? for a lot of things, but you use it correctly too and that's what counts. I can also make the sign for bear and you will growl at me, like a bear. You make animal sounds for bears, cows, owls and dogs. You won't try to make kitty sounds though, even though we have two of those. Your Dad says it is because you want a dog, but I know that he is the one who really wants a dog.

At night, our routine is that you get your diaper changed then have a few minutes of rough-play and laughing with Daddy. Then I ask you where Bear is and you reach for him and I take you from Daddy. You purse your lips and lean towards your Dad for one more kiss goodnight and he trys to get you to say "love you". You usually grin or wave at him over that one. One of these nights, you are going to shock us both by repeating it, and that is going to sound good and my heart will melt all at once. Then you and I brush your teeth, you are getting close to spitting the toothpaste out when I say time to spit. As we go up to your crib, I tell you the same story every night, "I Love You Through And Through". It has drawings of a little boy and his bear and I think he looks sort of like you and Bear. I think you do too, because one night we were looking at the actual book and I asked you where Little Man and Bear were and you pointed to the pictures. Who knows? Anyway, by the time your story is done, we are at your crib and I say "where are Mummy's hugs?" and you put both arms around me and pat my arms or back, whichever you reach at the time. Then you want to lay down and I cover you up and take one more kiss. You have started saying and signing more, so I give you more kisses. Then it is good night and I shut the door.

I think you are really smart. You might not be saying a lot of things yet, I see the words coming, but you understand when we ask you to do something. We can read any number of books and you will point out objects in the books it surprizes me that you know what some of them are. The other night, Deigo was on tv and he asked where the book on the computer was. You pointed it out right away on the screen, before they pointed it out. Quite a few months ago, your Dad could give you something on one side of the room and say "take this to Mummy" and you would bring it to me right away. You still do that.

Little Man, you are growing up so fast, please slow down, just a little. I love you lots and lots,
Mummy
