Month 21
Dear Little Man
Today you are 21 months old. You spent last night with your Gramma S and I missed you before you even left the driveway. I almost cancelled the visit, just because I was so sad to see you go.
Easter was last weekend and you and I went to Gramma's for a couple of nights. She cooked dinner Friday and your Uncle J, Aunt K and cousin J were there too. You and J stood at the door and babbled at each other, then took off down the hall. You were walking and J was motoring along on his knees. You both went straight to the toys she keeps in the living room and started playing. It was like you told him you knew where Gramma kept the toys and he understood you and followed. You were both very cute with each other. Later in the day, Gramma asked J were his legs were and he pulled his pantlegs up to show us. Then she asked him where his nose was, and you reached around and touched his nose for him. You are so cute and smart.
Later that night, Uncle J called Gramma and told her that J started walking when they got home. He thinks that you inspired him by walking all around the place. I don't know if that's the way things work, but it is a cool story either way.
You are saying a few more words now. I think the most impressive one is that you crawled up on the arm of the couch and stood against the wall. Then you looked at me and spread your arms wide and said "Ta-Da". You then let yourself fall forward and I caught you. We played this game several times in a row. Good use of words, son. You also said Poppa at your grandparent H's last week. You were turning towards him and calling for him all over the place. Gramma H asked you if you could say Gramma, and you looked at her and shook your head no. Poor Gramma's, they both want to hear you say it so much. Maybe soon. If we are watching tv, you will usually wave bye-bye to the shows when they are over. This weekend I thought you said bye-bye after one of them, but I couldn't get you to do it again. You also picked up "boo" as your Gramma S called me this morning, put you on the phone and said "scare Mummy", you said "boo" into the phone and laughed. I think you might have picked that one up this weekend from your brother M, as he likes to say that to you when you guys are playing.
You had a good time playing with M this weekend. K stayed at her mom's this time, so it was just you and M around. He wrestled with you and watched tv with you. He even kissed you when he was leaving to go home, impressive for a 16 year old boy. I must remember to tell him that I think you picked up a word from him this weekend, I bet he'll be happy over that.
Last week, I came home from work and you and Daddy were listening to music. I am a shy singer at the best of times, but I have gotten braver around your Daddy and naturally around you. So I started singing along to a song. You looked at me, stuck your hand out to the side and shook it while saying "No mum mum, no" and then, I kid you not, took your little index finger up to your sweet little rosebud lips and went "shss, shss". The first time was cute and would make a good story the next day at work. The second time you did it about 10-15 minutes later, it was still cute and all that, but it stung a little. Oh well, I will keep singing to/around you, so get used to it, ok?
I am working on the signs for please and thank you with you. You did get the one for please a bit, but I think I might have confussed you by doing the signs for more and please at the same time. I have gotten a little slack in teaching you the signs and I would really like you to get these ones down. Of course, maybe I should be working on the words with you, but I think you get those along with the signs.
You have started moving more when you dance. Before you would just pump your arms and maybe lean a little. This weekend you were bouncing a bit while pumping your arms and leaning to the side, so you are getting there. You have also taken to climbing on everything, chairs, coffee table, the stand for the island in the kitchen, everything. It is good for you, but nervewracking to me at the same time. I guess you are just really currious. You love to press the button on the cd player that open and closes the tray. Same thing with the alarm clock radio next to my bed. You know which button turns on the radio, which one turns it off and which controls the volume. I don't mind you playing with that one, because it gives you something to amuse yourself with if I need to be in the bedroom for something. What I do not like you playing with is the space heater that we use in the bedroom and sometimes in the living room. The other day, you even turned it on. You whipped your head around and looked at me with a surprised look on your face before I even got a chance to say anything. Oh, the trouble I am in for.
Love you bunches,
Mummy
