Month 24

Dear Little Man,

Yes, this month I am later than last on doing an entry. I will summarize the month and say that not much changed from last. You are still a delightful little boy, who is growing to be more of a little boy than my little baby. I cannot believe how quickly these two years have gone. Your big brother, M, moved in with us at the end of June and it is nice to see you guys interacting on a daily basis. We keep trying to get you to say his name, but it just isn't happening. The closest you came was saying something that sounded like "my bro" a few times, but even that isn't consistent. You love to play with him and listen to him really well. At night, when you are giving out good nights and hugs, you run to him every time.

Your birthday party went a little smoother this year. I didn't invite the whole family again, just K and M, Gramma S, Gramma H and Poppa, Uncle J and Aunt K and little cousin J, Aunt J and big cousin J, and Marsha and her granddaughter Jensen. Overall, it was a good party, but I still look forward to having more little kids at the party and less adults. I should really be careful what I wish for, I think! You had a Thomas the Train cake that Gramma S made for you and she did a really good job on it. You didn't get tired or cranky and had a wonderful time with Jensen and little cousin J playing on your slide. Lots of toys and clothes came your way and it was a fun time.

I waited too long to get back to this and that's too bad because you turned two! I should have recorded more about it, but I am not able to change that. As always, I love you very much Little Man. You are the best little boy I could've ever hoped for.

Love you lots,
Mummy

Month 23

Dear Little Man,

Ok, I know that it is now closer to month 24 for you than the 23rd, but you probably know by now, your Mummy is a procrastinator. That is why I didn't have my bags packed for the hospital until five minutes before leaving for the hospital to have you. That is why I didn't go to the hospital when I thought my water broke for several hours, although there is more of a story there, but I think I will save that for another entry. Hopefully you will learn to adapt to the procrastination that runs in your genes (your Daddy is great at it too) and maybe overcome it. If not, it's not so bad.

Let's see, this month you did a couple of fun things. We stopped by one of your Daddy's friends after dropping off K&M at their mom's house one day. He broke his leg in a motorcycle accident and we wanted to see how he was doing. He plays the drums and has a set in his living room. He got out a special pair of drum sticks and let you play the drums. You had a blast! Your face lit up and you got the biggest grin and just went to town. He even let you use the wooden sticks for a while and press on the pedal to make the big drum (I don't know much about drums) make noise. You were very good with being gentle with it, but at the same time, hitting them hard enough to make noise.

In the words department, there still isn't much being said. I know you understand everything we say to you, I can ask you to wipe your mouth with a napkin and you will do it. You can pick out things in books when you are asked and so on. You also have your own way of saying things, such as "brum-brum" for any thing with a motor, whether it is a car, truck or the fan in the bedroom. The cats are "wow-wow"s and so are dogs. This month you said your own name though, and that was cool. You also have started saying "my mum" and "my dad", very cool too. Oh well, the words will come eventually.

You have inherited your dad's and my love of the outdoors. You can be in the worst little mood imaginable and all you need to hear is "want to go outside?" and you are suddenly better and running for the door. This works with going for a ride in the car too. You have a slide and you love to play on that. You also like walking around the yard and running through the grapes. If your dad or I go outside without you and you hear the door, oh boy do you get angry. You like it so much out there that it is hard to get you back inside when it's time to go. I really hope that you stay that way and want to go outside instead of sitting indoors in front of a screen. I will try my best to keep you from that.

Love,
Mummy

You're so pretty

First off, I know, I know, I'm waaayy overdue for the newsletter for this month. I am working on it and it will be up shortly.

Last night I was worried about what I was going to do with my hair for K's graduation Thursday night, since my regular girl doesn't have an opening for a cut until, get this, JULY 28th! JULY 28th! is too far away and obivously not going to help me for the graduation on JUNE 28th. So I set out this week to find someone in town who will not charge me an arm and a leg to get it straightened for the evening. I called the shop that I once went to and they said $20 if your hair is clean and dried when you get here, add $16 to that if you need it washed and dried also. Steep. I then called another shop and they were $20 to wash, dry and straighten, but didn't have any openings. Crap. So then I called another place, co-owned by a woman who was in our pre-natal class. It wasn't her that I was speaking to, but they will do the full treatment for $10, just the straightening for $5. WOW! Guess where I am going?

So, back to the GH part. He was listening to me worry about how my hair is looking lately, because it is getting longer and doing the middle split, bottom fuzzy thing it tends to do. He looked at me and said "You're so pretty" and then "I like your hair, but if you want to get it cut short again, that's ok." I love this man. I know how much he likes my hair when it's longer, but if it will make me happy to cut it, that's fine with him. I know that it is my hair and all, but still, it's nice. I don't want to go back to short hair, because I have a style that I am aiming for and it is shoulder length. It's just this darn growing out period that sucks. Really, it looks like my hair was sucked at the roots to my cheekbone level, then it puffs out down past my shoulders. So he must really be great and love me lots if he thinks that is attractive! Of course, I am always way harder on myself than he is on me.

Weekend Recap

We had a pretty good weekend, it seemed longer than two days and that is usually always nice. Little Man slept in until almost 8am Saturday morning, so I got the treat of doing so also. K and M were supposed to be here this weekend, but K had plans to pick berries to make some money for her appartment and M wanted to hang out with his friends. Can't say I blame him, since he is moving here in three weeks.

So Saturday we got ready and went to the Valley and had lunch at Grandparent H's. Great Hubby and his dad went to a church sale and GH bought himself a mitre saw and three fruit trees, apple we think. These things were quite big, over 4 feet per tree. We left them out of the ground Saturday night to allow time to plan where they were going to be planted. On Sunday, we finally came up with a spot to put one of them, so GH and LM planted the tree while I was mowing the lawn. GH said that LM was helping him, so I said that I would record it as the first time he helped plant a tree. Yay LM!

Sunday was spent with me mowing the lawn and the boys doing other stuff around the yard. GH finally figured out where to put the other two trees (locations changed several times in 24 hours). I did not get the whole yard done, I gave out around 5 or so. Of course it had to be the front that I didn't get to and now it has rained all day, so it is going to be fairly long by the time I get back to it. Hopefully tomorrow will be dry and I will finish it off.

Wow, writing it out like that, it sounds pretty boring, but it wasn't.

Month 22

Dear Little Man,

22 months has passed since you were born. I am not ready for it to be this long since your day of birth. I know I have said it before, but here I go again. You are growing so much, it seems that every time I turn around, you have gotten bigger and learned something new.

You now know the sign for thank you, well, at least what we are going to work with as thank you. You will put your hand up to your heart area and move it forward, but I cannot get you to go up to your lips and do it. Oh well, whatever works is fine with me and when prompted, you will use it correctly. The other day we were in a restaurant with Gramma S and the waitress gave you cookies when we were leaving. Gramma asked you to say thank you and you made the sign. I was very proud of you.

You still aren't talking much, but you still astound us with your ability to understand what we are saying to you and around you. Last night you daddy said that we should go outside and you got very excited and went looking for your shoes. He asked you where you were going and you pointed towards the patio doors and bounced quite a bit. You love being outdoors and even though it was raining lightly and the black flies were out and biting, you did not want to come inside last night. We had to convince you to come in with the promise of a cookie and it was still a bit of a struggle. You are just like your daddy that way.

You have also started to say Poppa whenever you see an older man. We pulled into the bank the other day and an older gentleman pulled in next to us. You shouted "Poppa!" and got really excited until I told you he wasn't Poppa. It is very cute. You also seem to recognize when we are going to your grandparent's houses. You know when we drive by the entrance to Gramma and Poppa H's and Gramma S said you knew where you were the last time she took you home to her place for an overnight.

This month, Drew Barrymore was named People Magazine's Most Beautiful Person and she was on the cover of the magazine. Your daddy had you out grocery shopping one day and he told me that when you guys were waiting in the checkout line, you kept pointing at something and saying "mum, mum". When he looked at what you were pointing at, it was the magazine with Drew on the cover. Later that day after you guys picked me up from work, we stopped in to get something and he picked up the magazine and asked you who she was. You said it again, "mum!". I am very flattered, Little Man. I think she is a very beautiful person and I have always been a fan of hers, so you made mummy very happy by saying that. I just had to put this in because, well, it made me feel good.

You are a blur of activity and I love you so much. You are still sleeping in our room and in the mornings I hear you moving about. I watch you sit up and look around. Not long after that, you reach for the railing of your crib and pull yourself up and call out "mum". If I don't answer you soon enough, you start to say it over and over with a question at the end, like you are checking that I am still there. Once I say good morning to you, you will move on to saying "dada" and then switch back and forth after he answers you. You like to have me get you out of your crib while you daddy is in the bathroom and crawl back into bed with me. We snuggle and you talk to me while we wait for him to come and take you downstairs. I love spending that time with you. You are still somewhat cuddly from sleeping and it is a nice start to the day. I will miss you so much when you move to your own room.

Love you,
Mummy

Month 21

Dear Little Man

Today you are 21 months old. You spent last night with your Gramma S and I missed you before you even left the driveway. I almost cancelled the visit, just because I was so sad to see you go.

Easter was last weekend and you and I went to Gramma's for a couple of nights. She cooked dinner Friday and your Uncle J, Aunt K and cousin J were there too. You and J stood at the door and babbled at each other, then took off down the hall. You were walking and J was motoring along on his knees. You both went straight to the toys she keeps in the living room and started playing. It was like you told him you knew where Gramma kept the toys and he understood you and followed. You were both very cute with each other. Later in the day, Gramma asked J were his legs were and he pulled his pantlegs up to show us. Then she asked him where his nose was, and you reached around and touched his nose for him. You are so cute and smart.

Later that night, Uncle J called Gramma and told her that J started walking when they got home. He thinks that you inspired him by walking all around the place. I don't know if that's the way things work, but it is a cool story either way.

You are saying a few more words now. I think the most impressive one is that you crawled up on the arm of the couch and stood against the wall. Then you looked at me and spread your arms wide and said "Ta-Da". You then let yourself fall forward and I caught you. We played this game several times in a row. Good use of words, son. You also said Poppa at your grandparent H's last week. You were turning towards him and calling for him all over the place. Gramma H asked you if you could say Gramma, and you looked at her and shook your head no. Poor Gramma's, they both want to hear you say it so much. Maybe soon. If we are watching tv, you will usually wave bye-bye to the shows when they are over. This weekend I thought you said bye-bye after one of them, but I couldn't get you to do it again. You also picked up "boo" as your Gramma S called me this morning, put you on the phone and said "scare Mummy", you said "boo" into the phone and laughed. I think you might have picked that one up this weekend from your brother M, as he likes to say that to you when you guys are playing.

You had a good time playing with M this weekend. K stayed at her mom's this time, so it was just you and M around. He wrestled with you and watched tv with you. He even kissed you when he was leaving to go home, impressive for a 16 year old boy. I must remember to tell him that I think you picked up a word from him this weekend, I bet he'll be happy over that.

Last week, I came home from work and you and Daddy were listening to music. I am a shy singer at the best of times, but I have gotten braver around your Daddy and naturally around you. So I started singing along to a song. You looked at me, stuck your hand out to the side and shook it while saying "No mum mum, no" and then, I kid you not, took your little index finger up to your sweet little rosebud lips and went "shss, shss". The first time was cute and would make a good story the next day at work. The second time you did it about 10-15 minutes later, it was still cute and all that, but it stung a little. Oh well, I will keep singing to/around you, so get used to it, ok?

I am working on the signs for please and thank you with you. You did get the one for please a bit, but I think I might have confussed you by doing the signs for more and please at the same time. I have gotten a little slack in teaching you the signs and I would really like you to get these ones down. Of course, maybe I should be working on the words with you, but I think you get those along with the signs.

You have started moving more when you dance. Before you would just pump your arms and maybe lean a little. This weekend you were bouncing a bit while pumping your arms and leaning to the side, so you are getting there. You have also taken to climbing on everything, chairs, coffee table, the stand for the island in the kitchen, everything. It is good for you, but nervewracking to me at the same time. I guess you are just really currious. You love to press the button on the cd player that open and closes the tray. Same thing with the alarm clock radio next to my bed. You know which button turns on the radio, which one turns it off and which controls the volume. I don't mind you playing with that one, because it gives you something to amuse yourself with if I need to be in the bedroom for something. What I do not like you playing with is the space heater that we use in the bedroom and sometimes in the living room. The other day, you even turned it on. You whipped your head around and looked at me with a surprised look on your face before I even got a chance to say anything. Oh, the trouble I am in for.

Love you bunches,
Mummy
